Sunflower oil has an impressive fatty acid content, which includes palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, and linoleic acid. Furthermore, some of those fatty acids, as well as vitamin E and other compounds, act as antioxidants to protect the skin from free radicals. In addition to these, it contains carotenoids and appreciable quantities of vitamins A, D and E. Due to its emollient properties, sunflower oil helps the skin to retain its moisture. Sunflower oil also contains high amounts of lecithin which acts as an emollient and is a softening and soothing agent. Lecithin has powerful moisturizing properties that help to keep the skin hydrated. It also has the unique ability to deeply penetrate the skin. As a result, it may assist the skin in absorbing other properties as well.
